You don’t have to have to yearn to be onstage to join Parkend Players. In fact you don’t have to be an actor at all — there are many other things you can do. Actors depend on many other people to make a production happen, technicians, backstage crew, wardrobe, publicity and front-of house team all contribute to make a production happen, and of course new helpers are always welcome.
Here’s a short list of the back stage team and briefly what’s involved. To get involved, even if you’re not sure in what capacity, then contact us.
Sets and Props
Sets need to be designed and built on a very limited budget, so artistic skills are needed here, for example the ability to conjure up a building or garden on a piece of plywood. Basic DIY skills are also always in demand for building sets.
If you have a knack for sewing, with perhaps an interest in style and fashion, you’re an ideal candidate to help with costumes, reusing and updating costumes from our stock to suit a production.
Sound and Light Technicians
Shows need lighting and sound effects music etc. to bring them to life. Technical skills needed here but there’s always room for keen new recruits to “learn the ropes” with us.
The backstage crew swing into action during a show, managing props, scenery curtains etc. and of course providing prompts if needed to the actors.
Front of House
The front of house team handle everything in the auditorium during the staging of a show. This includes checking tickets, selling refreshments, seating the audience, running a raffle etc.
